Sagres is a place that provides unique moments in the presence of dolphins, whales, and also sharks.
We set on this journey in search of dolphins and other forms of marine life, a powerful experience, ideal to share with family and friends. During the route taken, which differs from day to day, we can watch several species of cetaceans and seabirds, or even cross paths with sharks, ocean sunfishes, and sea-turtles.
Cetaceans are the only mammal group that is exclusively aquatic, and it includes whales, dolphins, and porpoises. There are about 15 species that frequent our shores. Some populations or species are regulars, while others are occasional. The most commonly sighted species are the Common dolphin (Delphinus delphis), the Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena), the Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), and the Risso’s dolphin (Grampus griseus). Occasionally we find the Orca (Orcinus orca), that usually visits us during the summer, the Mink whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata), or the Striped dolphin (Stenella coeroleoalba), among others.
